The Influential Group “EMILY’s List” is Causing More Problems For Democrats

This marks the second time the influential group Emily’s List has gone ahead and offered both their endorsement and services too a candidate challenging a Democrat incumbent.. This time Emily’s List, a group who supports female candidates who are pro choice - only, has stepped in and supported Nikki Tinker., the challenger taking on liberal Democrat congressman Steve Cohen:

The group, which backs female candidates who support abortion rights, announced Friday its support for Democrat Nikki Tinker in her primary challenge to Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.)

The group helped Democrat Donna Edwards defeat Rep. Al Wynn (D-Md.) in the February primary. It is the second straight cycle the group has backed Tinker, but EMILY’s List spokeswoman Ramona Oliver said the decision was more difficult now that Cohen is the incumbent.

Cohen defeated a crowded field of Democrats in 2006 to win an open seat and become one of very few white representatives from a majority-black district.

While this no doubt serves as an annoyance to Tennessee Democrats, who will now have to divulge more funds and focus on Tinker, opposed to the GOP’s candidate, it’s by no means the end of the world.

Recently a poll put together by Lake Research Centers in Tennessee illustrated why in fact Cohen shouldn’t be all “gloom and doom” over Emily’s List endorsement of Tinker. The poll showed Cohen leading Tinker among likely voters by a whopping 63% to 11% margin.
