Right Wing Web Site Unveils Their “Patriots & Traitors” List

The right wing fringe site, Country Above Self, has released their “highly anticipated” Patriots and Traitors list. Now I would like to point out that whomever the people were in charge of formulating this list an/or participated in the voting are either a) “crazy” in a clinical sense, or b) attempting to be funny. there is a part of me that’s taken aback at the pure, and unadulterated irony represented in both the “Patriots” and “Traitors.” sections, an irony which I am sure you will pick up on. To say that the final list shows sheer hypocrisy would be an understatement, again, something you will be able to see for yourself.

CountryAboveSelf.com is a site that is great to visit when in need of a good chuckle. However their latest and greatest, “Patriots & Traitors”, strikes me as both a disgrace and a slap in the face to intelligent American’s of both parties.

As you can see to the right, I have attached the “list” for those of you interested (click image to enlarge). However as I was pondering what I would write about this egregious attack on reality, I came to the conclusion that simply providing the list for all to laugh at was not enough, and that I would in fact take the time to illustrate just how bizarre, and factually incoherent the list at hand really is.

Let me begin with the so called “Patriots”, comprised of some of Politics absolute worst, paired along side the medias most pathetic, shrill, wannabe visionaries who in reality are nothing more then hate mongering, anti intellectual, goons. Here is a little background (as if it wasn’t already common knowledge) on some “Super Patriotic” American’s (super based on their top 20 status of course.)

Alberto Gonzales- Now this guy is a real winner, Gonzales, the former United States Attorney General was forced to resign from office amidst a Justice Department scandal revolving around the unprecedented midterm dismissal of seven United States Attorneys on December 7, 2006 by the Alberto Gonzales’ Justice Department. The U.S. attorneys were dismissed without explanation and replaced with interim appointees, under the then-recent provisions of the 2005 Patriot Act reauthorization. This scandal was so blatantly linked to Gonzales that members of Congress, with majorities from both parties had called for Attorney General Gonzales’s immediate resignation, noting that Gonzales “disgraced the Office for which he held.” Adding onto his already long list of personal and professional problems, Alberto Gonzales has been unable to find employment in the private sector, and/or academic world too this very day. Clearly, Gonzales just oozes patriotism.

George W. Bush- Oh man, where do you even start with this guy. To name this man a “patriot” should really be a crime within itself, unfortunately it isn’t, so we will just have to de-construct any notion of this man being anything more then the painfully negligent leader that he is. This derelict has successfully led America into an unnecessary war in Iraq, which has cost over 4,000 of our bravest their life’s, the worst economic times in memory, along with a list of scandals so long that I would be here for days trying to get them all down. From torture, to wiretapping, from no bid contracts, to the absolute demise of the United States in the eyes of the world, Bush has done it all. I do not know what put him over the top in the “Patriot” voting, maybe it was the Pentagons release that the Bush administration knowingly told 935 lies in the run up to Iraq, or maybe it was Scott McClellan’s revelations which acknowledge the fact Bush approved of the Valerie Plame CIA leak, or maybe it was his “Johnny on the spot”handling of Hurricane Katrina, which even current GOP Presidential Candidate John McCain publicly lambasted. Whatever it was worked, because Bush made number two on the list of Country Above Self’s “Patriots.”

Dick Cheney- Good god these people are bizarre. See above and credit Cheney with 99% of the same blame, and that will give you a good idea as too how patriotic this “big business” chicken hawk really is.

Bill O’Reilley- This sexual harassing, accusation wielding, race baiter is the definition of Patriot. Or not. O’Reilly is number one when it comes to calling for lynching parties for Presidential nominees wifes, or comparing members of the mainstream media to nazis and the those associated with the KKK, but as far as being a Patriot, this man is the furthest thing from it.

(Former Rep.) Tom Delay- DeLay has made himself the poster-pol for Washington’s standard ethical double standard: What is OK for me is attackable for you. Or, as I’ve said before: Ethics DeLayed is ethics denied. DeLay offered to endorse a retiring GOP congressman’s son in a primary if the representative voted for the Medicare prescription drug bill. DeLay also sought to use the Federal Aviation Administration for political purposes back home in Texas, and he promised access to special interests at campaign fund-raisers. These are just a handful of examples that show Delay’s “Patriotism”, it’s a shame however that this Patriot is likely to end up behind bars sooner then later.

Well there you have it, while I have only divulged into the specifics of a select few of those making CountryAboveSelf.com’s “Patriot” list, I think that it offers quite a substantial amount of insight into the mindset of those formulating the list itself - that being complete irrationality, and a failure to see reality for what it is and not what you want it to be.

Before I wrap this up I will rattle off some of those holding down the top spots on the “Traitors” portion of the list, which are figures who really do not need their work, or mission explained. Their perceived villains, working to “hurt America” include, Ron Paul, Al Gore, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, “Phony Soldiers” (I wasn’t aware these type of soldiers existed), Gen. Wesley Clark, Jack Murtha, John Kerry, and the worst “Traitor” of them all, the vile and unruly - DANNY GLOVER!

In closing I just want to say that it is always important to realize that while we may see these lists, and read the nonsense filled babble on various political “fringe” web sites and publications, that people actually believe what is said, listed, or inferred. And even though it comes off as legitimate comedy to rational, level headed individuals, it is reality for a select, and incredibly sorry, few.

Too me that is the most troublesome thing of it all, I mean I could care less if some nut job, in his mothers basement comes up with a hare brained analysis, or list as we see here, in fact I will laugh to the cows come home. However when that pathetic individual, still living in his moms basement turns into thousands of people, ranging - well not really ranging (their demographics tend to be pretty cut and dry across the board) perpetuating such a lunatic fringe perspective I must admit I get rattled.
