Gingrich on the ‘Daily Show’: Stewart Asks About the GOP’s Double Standard

Everyone’s favorite media personality, former Speaker of the House turned FOX News knee capper, Newt Gingrich, appeared on Comedy Centrals “The Daily Show” and faced a litany of questions a lot of us have been asking for answers too for some time now, dealing with the blatant double standard set for the GOP that is not at all afforded to Democrats. Specifically Stewart inquired why in fact left-wing and right-wing religious figures were covered differently –case in point: Pastor John Haggee and Reverend Jeremiah Wright– and while Obama had been all but crucified (no pun intended) by the mainstream media, McCain was more or less given a “free pass” similar to the soft ball treatment the GOP has enjoyed since the late 1970’s, in regards to the media’s coverage of religious figures who stood hand in hand with Reagan, Bush, Dubya et cetera:

Stewart: John McCain approached Hagee for his endorsement,Falwell and Robertson said 9/11 was because we secularized our culture, yet they’re still allowed to play the game. Don’t you find that surprising?”

And then here’s the complete segment, which comes courtesy of our friends over at Crooks & Liars. It is worth the watch, it’s both humorous, and incredibly true. If anything else, it’s fun to watch Newt get all uncomfortable realizing he isn’t in the comfy confines of Faux News:
