Upon request I am going to go ahead and go into detail on Mr. George Galloway, I will touch on his following in U.K., past political situations both good and bad, and how he is viewed globally.

George Galloway has been an active member of Parliament since 1987, and up until October of 2003 was a member of the Labour Party. Due to multiple incidents, including verbal exchanges between members of his party, Tony Blair, and the Press regarding the Iraq Invasion Galloway was seemingly booted from the Labour Party. However this did not stop him, in January of 2004 he announced he would work hand in hand with the English Socialist Alliance under a new party name , Respect-The Unity Coalition, but in the 2004 Parliamentary elections Galloway, running as the Respect Party candidate came up short. After moving districts Galloway won back a seat by a mere 820 votes.

Galloway’s activity in Parliament fell to its lowest levels in 2003 after being suspended and ultimately expelled from the Labour party, and even today Galloway has kept a low profile, drawing very little attention to himself in Parliament happenings.

A fiery leftist, Galloway is known for his stance that many call anti-Israeli, for he has openly criticized them for years. Other traits that have been pinned on him are his fondness for Syria, Lebanon and other Muslim countries many of which are deemed “terrorist havens” by both his country and America alike. Through all this Galloway holds a surprisingly high approval rating in his elected district, and much like the division here in the U.S., views of him are split throughout the rest of the United Kingdom.

Like him or not it seems like “Gorgeous” George Galloway is going to tell you how he feels and if you don’t agree either get out of the way or prepare to battle. If you get a minute and feel like watching two sharp and witty men debate go over to you tube and search for Galloway and Hitchens. Christopher Hichen’s now a U.S. citizen and self proclaimed right winger has gained quite a bit of fame in this country over the past year due to the release of his book God Is Not Great. If you couldn’t tell by the title he is a devout atheist (side note: A right wing Atheist? I honestly think Hitchens is the first to carry this mantra in the history of the Republican Party here in the U.S.A.) Anyways the debate is exceptionally interesting and really lets you know where the left and right stand in the United Kingdom.

So there is a little background on my number two political hero, I will continue writing about Galloway, and what he has been up to from time to time in the future so check back often.
