Former Candidate John Kerry Endorses Barack Obama

Sen. John Kerry the 2004 Democrat nominee for president finally came out with his endorsement, and it was not for his one time vice presidential candidate John Edwards. No, John Kerry came out and endorsed Sen. Barack Obama today:

From the New York Times:

Senator John Kerry embraced the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama here on Thursday, saying Mr. Obama had the greatest potential to lead a transformation, not just a transition.”

Who better than Barack Obama to bring new credibility to America’s role in the world and help restore our moral authority?” Mr. Kerry said, speaking at a rally at the College of Charleston. Who better than Barack Obama to turn a new page in American politics, so that Democrats, independents and Republicans alike can look to the leadership that unites to find common ground.”

This will play a major role in fund raising operations because Obama will now have access to John Kerry’s mailing list which includes big time Democrat donors. Kerry and Edwards had a much publicized falling out after the 2004 race when Kerry did not contest the Ohio results in which Edwards thought that he should have. However John Edwards responded like a statesman when asked about Kerry’s endorsement for Obama. Edwards said:

“Our country and our party are stronger because of John’s service, and I respect his decision. When we were running against each other and on the same ticket, John and I agreed on many issues.”
