During an interview on Sirius radio last night, Hillary Clinton’s chief adviser Terry McAuliffe, in his usual (and this is not an contrived thing, he’s really always like this) up beat and enthusiastic mood began talking up the idea of a joint ticket in overly “glowing terms” in an interview that aired on Sirius radio. Attached is a good portion of the interview transcript which illustrates just how much Terry likes the idea of an Obama/Clinton ticket, an idea, which may in fact be signs of what is yet to come in this already turbulent, soap opera of a Democratic primary race.
The interview transcript excerpt which has been made available below, comes to us courtesey of our friends over at Talking Points Memo, who continue to set the precedent for political reporting:
TERRY MCAULIFFE: Well first of all, as you know Mark, both of them, both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are themselves going to have to decide who they think is going to be their best Vice President. For the rest of us it’s speculation and presumption and all that.
I’m just — I’ll put on my former chairman of the Democratic Party hat — I think it’s a great idea at the end of this process for us all to be together…
I do get excited about the possibility of having Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton crisscrossing this country in the fall of 2008. I think that would be pretty exciting. But I have absolutely no say in it. Hillary Clinton and I have never talked about it. But as former chairman of the party it does get you somewhat excited.
How many times can you say excited in a statement. I mean no offense to Terry, whom I actually hold in the highest regard politically speaking (even though some of his antics this primary have sickened me) but it sounds like the Clinton camp is almost foaming at the mouth for the VP slot, forget about the actual nomination, I think they already know that is out of the question.
Will this scenario happen? If I were still a gambling addict I would probably bet everything I had against the Clinton/Obama ticket ever actually becoming a reality. That said I was quite the loser in terms of my betting, so who knows, after this race and it’s never ending twists, turns, and everything else I do not think anything out of this Primary cycle would really “shock” us anymore — so I suppose we will continue to wait patiently and watch it play out.
