NEW YORK - Fewer Americans are reading newspapers and are instead getting their news online, but television remains the leading source of news in the country, according to a survey released Sunday. Not surprisingly, younger people tend to get more of their news on the Internet, while older folks use traditional media such as television and newspapers, the Pew Research Center’s biannual survey on news consumption habits said.
“It’s Almost Like They Take Pride in Being Ignorant”: Obama Strikes Back
August 5, 2008
This is the Barack Obama that Democrats, and more importantly - this country needs. Of course I am referring to Obama’s firing back of sorts during a campaign stop in Berea, Ohio. Barack Obama seemingly had heard enough, over the last week we have been inundated with a steady stream of garbage courtesey of the new and not so improved McCain/Rove machine.
Political Black Ops to the Extreme: “Lifelong” Gun-Control Advocate Outted as NRA Spy
August 5, 2008
The AP is reporting that a gun-control activist who championed the cause for more than a decade and served on the boards of two anti-violence groups is suspected of working as a paid spy for the National Rifle Association, and now those organizations are expelling her and sweeping their offices for bugs.
Is Colorado the New Ohio? How the Rocky Mountain Swing State Could Decide the Election
July 14, 2008
There has been a lot of talk regarding the electoral map “swing states” as of late. A particular focus has been put on Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and Missouri all states where the current polls are close, but reflect similar numbers at this time back in 2000 and 2004. That is why electoral experts have begun to believe that Colorado will ultimately decide the 2008 election - and this is not an assertion that should be taken lightly either. Those arguing that Colorado is very likely in deciding the ‘08 election have quite a compelling argument on their side - one that makes more and more sense as each day passes, and state polls are released.
Latest Cover of New Yorker Magazine Spotlights Journalistic “Amateur Hour” at its Finest
July 13, 2008
The New Yorker has apparently thrown any hint of class to the wayside, this conclusion was drawn from their decision to run a tasteless (this is putting it politely) cover illustration for this weeks publication. The cartoon portrays Michelle and Barack Obama perpetuating every single slanderous right wing stereotype. With the Oval office serving as the backdrop, a huge portrait of Osama Bin Laden as well as an American Flag in flames, adjacent to the fireplace rounds up the office decor. Obama appears in full Muslim garb, fist-bumping Michelle, who is depicted as the “afro’d out wife”, dressed in the military fatigues with a machine gun and ammo draped over her shoulder.
The Bad, Worse & Downright Ugly: The Week McCain Would Like to Forget
July 10, 2008
To say that John McCain had a “rough week” would be an understatement. In all reality, the past five days under any other circumstances, with any other candidate, would represent the beginning of the end politically speaking. Yet somehow McCain continues to breeze on by with little more then a whimper from the mainstream media, a rather troubling trend that has become the “norm” in the “talking heads” coverage of the 2008 election.
Come Again? What Did Jesse Jackson Say?
July 10, 2008
Yesterday we covered the poignant comments made by a certain Jesse Jackson in which he used some colorful language when discussing Barack Obama. All of this took place while he was mic’d up, however Jackson was under the impression they weren’t on TV or being recorded. SURPRISE!
However the fun really started when rival news stations began reporting the story, or attempted to report the story I should say. 236.com has captured the beautiful awkwardness of watching every cable news anchor struggle to explain the story without being able to say one specific word in a delightful little vignette which is attached below.
What Makes FOX News Tick: The Bad, the Worse & the Ugly
July 6, 2008
FOX News is a lot of things to a lot of people. Some will tell you that it is their favorite news network, and that it is all the others that are bias in their reporting, not FOX. Then there are those like myself who feel as though FOX is the poster child of what is wrong with our mainstream media. The frame, fix, and put their own polish on the news opposed simply reporting it - which in all reality is their job, if they want to claim to be a legitimate news agency. It’s this split in opinion that makes the latest New York Times article which dissects the inside operations of FOX News that much more interesting.
“Say It Ain’t So”: Supposed Group of Angry Clinton Supporters, PUMA Outted for Being Owned & Operated by Republicans
July 1, 2008
Well I have to tip my hate to the founders of P.U.M.A. (Party Unity my Ass), the group who claimed to be adamant Hillary supporters, and since her primary defeat have now decided to take their “democratic brand” over to the GOP, and John McCain. These folks had a lot of people fooled, including the mainstream media who seemingly couldn’t get enough “on air” interviews with PUMA members (FOX was especially privy to the group). However, we now know that PUMA’s founders, organizers, and leadership is comprised of McCain supporters (surprise, surprise).
Susan Rice Makes Scarborough & Gregory Look Silly: However Their Debate Raises a Bigger Issue…
June 28, 2008
Susan Rice, one of Barack Obama’s Chief Foreign Policy Advisers, was a guest on Friday mornings “Morning Joe”, and was brought in to discuss North Korea, and the general “war on terror”. What makes this clip so intriguing is that Rice manages to absolutely steam roll both Scarborough, and David Gregory (who was also involved) The “tit for tat” political debate, focused mainly on North Korea’s destruction of a long-defunct nuclear cooling tower, which took place earlier that morning morning.
