There has been a lot of talk lately regarding whether or not the U.S. should begin “offshore drilling” as a measure to ease the energy crunch we currently find ourselves knee-deep in. The plan, which would include drilling in and around various sections of the U.S. coastline is widely supported by the GOP, and as you would expect, opposed to by nearly every Democrat in both the House and Senate.
The Internet Is So ‘Elitist’: Tracking Political Websites & Their Party Affiliation
June 24, 2008
Earlier this morning I stumbled across a fascinating article that discussed the political “blog-o-sphere” (I hate that word, mainly b/c many of the sites aren’t even ‘blogs’) and where they fell in terms of the ideological scale ranging from “very liberal”, all the way to the far right, “very conservative.” The results were somewhat surprising, mainly because they manages to debunk an argument often heard from those on the right that claims; “internet politics is dominated by liberals“. That argument, is simply not true (surprise, surprise a conservative argument proven completely wrong), the result is a tight, “pretty” map that shows a decided red/blue (conservative/liberal) split in the US political blogosphere.
While Race Relations are Not Perfect: Poll Shows That we are Heading in the Right Direction
June 22, 2008
Newly released numbers tell a story that finds itself in stark contrast too what so many in the “baby boomer” generation (you know who I am talking about; parents, friends parents, aunts, uncles, etc.) say regarding Obama’s chances, our country in all reality is more then just open to the idea, in fact roughly 90% of white American’s are fine with the idea of a black man becoming the President of the United States.
John Stewart On the Mainstream Medias Coverage of the Iowa Flooding
June 19, 2008
Watch as the “Daily Shows” Jon Stewart pokes fun at the medias “intense” coverage of the Iowa flooding nightmare. Stewart points out, in only a way he can pull off, how the mainstream media gave this natural disaster multiple nicknames with the likes of “the flood of the century,” “the great flood of ’08,” “a 500-year flood,” “a 1,000-year flood,” and “the worst flooding in the Midwest since the last record flood15 years ago.”
He also managed to highlight the “on air” talent who were in Iowa covering the story, and their fondness for literally placing themselves in the flood – I mean we are talking “waist deep” in the story. As usual hilarity ensues as Mr. Stewart continue to prove himself as somewhat of a whistle blower in regards to the more inane practices the mainstream media has seemingly feel in love with here in America.
New Poll Shows Obama Out Front & Why That Isn’t Necessarily a Good Thing for Democrats
June 18, 2008
ABC News and the Washington Post have released their latest Nation wide Presidential poll, which was comprised via telephone interview from June 12th-15th. The sample size was sufficient in size, with 1,125 registered voters answering a litany of questions regarding the candidates, the policies, and the overall direction of our country. The finding show that Barack Obama currently currently leads John McCain 48%-42%. Obama’s margin of lead has managed to remain pretty much the same, 6 points, however both McCain and Barack have seen a small slide in their support (Obama led McCain 51%-44% last month.) Also touched on were the similarities and differences this election has with the 2004 Kerry/Bush contest, which may in fact surprise many in terms of the similarities in polling data, approval/disapproval rating, Iraq, the Economy, etc.
John Stewart Reports on the Phenomenon Known as “Baracknophobia”
June 17, 2008
Last night the “Daily Shows” Jon Stewart took some time too point out just how willing the mainstream media is when it comes to covering even the most obscure Barack Obma “rumors” – and then, after making sure to include all the juicy details to the rumor which is already completely unsubstantiated they make sure to blame the spreading of the rumors on those “evil internet web sites.” Stewart appropriately titled the piece “Baracknophobia,” and proceeded to show clips of anchor and pundits from all three cable networks repeating baseless rumors (Muslim, plagiarist, sexist, etc.) about both Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle.
Once again Stewart manages too put the reality of our mainstreams media inability to stick to their job description – reporting the news as is – and instead opting to create the news through opinion based reports, covering non existing stories, and more or less acting as the mouthpiece for every erroneous, and often times comical rumors – then as I mentioned above, blame them on the “blogs.”
Anyways, here’s the clip – Enjoy:
John Edward’s Discusses VP Possibilities: “I would think about it seriously”
June 15, 2008
It was only three months ago the ’04 Vice Presidential candidate, John Edwards told a a group of reporters that he wasn’t interested in running as the parties VP for a second consecutive election. The former North Carolina Senator continued to say that if he was in fact offered the running mate position, he would politely turn it down. But in the world of politics it is important to remember that there is no such thing as the word “never” for a politician. However things change, and apparently that is exactly what we are seeing in terms of John Edwards, and the prospects of a second bid as the Democratic VP candidate.
“Left, Right & Center”: Media Personalities Reflect on the Legacy of Tim Russert
June 13, 2008
There seems to be a sense of shock of learning that media icon, Tim Russert, had tragically passed away after suffering a severe heart attack Friday afternoon while working at the NBC offices. The thought of Russert being anywhere but the set of “Meet the Press” Sunday morning is one that is all too foreign to accept. That’s what he did, that’s what he’s great at – asking the questions other journalists shied away from regardless if it were Barack Obama or an unknown GOP Congressman sitting across from him, or his always intriguing analysis of the latest beltway “buzz” with the likes of James Carville, Mike Murphy, Mary Matalin, Bob Shrum, or any one his of the esteemed Washington “insiders” who have graced the shows weekly panel.

June 13, 2008
WASHINGTON Tim Russert, a political lifer who made a TV career of his passion with unrelenting questioning of the powerful and influential, died of a heart attack Friday in the midst of a presidential campaign he’d covered with trademark intensity. Praise poured in from the biggest names in politics, some recalling their own meltdown moments on his hot seat.
MSNBC’s ’08 Presidential Primary Compilation: Definitely Worth Watching
June 11, 2008
Here is MSNBC’s “highlight reel” of sorts, which chronicles each and every gaffe, inspirational moment, comedic relief, misstatement, embarrassing gesture, controversial action, etc. that took place throughout the 2008 Presidential primary campaign. The video includes the best, and worst, from both the Republican and Democratic candidates – which is nice because I was beginning to forget how fun this thing was when Mitt “who let the dogs out” Romney was still in the running.
