College Recruiter.com along with a handful of other outlets recently published the 10 Best Cities for College Graduates. The basis for selection was total number of available paid internships and entry level positions aimed at fresh college grads. And here is your “Ten Best Cities For College Graduates”:
1) New York, NY
2) Los Angeles, CA
3) Washington, D.C.
4) Chicago, IL
5) San Fransisco, CA
6) Dallas, TX
7) Philadelphia, PA
Miami, FL
9) Houston, TX
10) Phoenix, AZ
A very attractive list I must say however there is a major flaw in their scoring system. The variable I am speaking about is “Cost Of Living.”
Here are the “Highest Cost Of Living” cities (of the 10 ranked) from bestplaces.net.
1) San Francisco, CA
2) New York, NY
3) Los Angeles, CA
4) Washington, D.C.
5) Miami, FL
6) Chicago, IL
7) Phoenix, AZ
Philadelphia, PA
9) Dallas, TX
10) Houston, TX
And the differences are not small by any measure. You have San Fransisco where the median value of a home is $750k, then Houston where the median level of a homes value tops at $1115k. So as nice as it may it look on the surface, if you are planning on moving to a big city (which I recommend, I honestly think people who retreat back home once they finish up are PATHETIC.) take everything into account. I will even go a bit farther and recommend that before you even look for employment you move to the city of choice, find an apartment and get comfortable with your new surroundings. It will make the transition a lot easier in the long run.
