Senator Obama’s controversial pastor, Jeremiah Wright, is set to make a last-minute resurgence in the US presidential campaign as the centrepiece of attack ads paid for by a political fund-raising group aligned with the Republican Party.

The advertisements are set to air nationally on all major networks and on cable channels Fox and CNN.

They are paid for by the National Republican Trust PAC (political action committee), run by the former journalist Scott Wheeler with about $US5 million to spend, allowing the McCain campaign to claim they are not authorised by them.

Palin vs Palin - Tina Fey for VP!

October 26, 2008

It is one of the joys of modern media that great events can be savoured in so many ways. This fusion of politics and make-believe in the American psyche has been a long time coming.

Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger are two obvious examples of those who have taken the silver screen and dragged it into the political arena.

The boundary between political reality and comic fantasy became even more blurred when Sarah Palin came face to face with her nemesis on the set of SNL, Tina Fey :

Their resemblance is astonishing!

Here are some interesting Facts.

Fact1 : Palin has told Fox News that a few years ago - long before she was campaigning to become but a heartbeat away from the US presidency - she dressed up as Fey on Halloween.

Yes,  Palin had impersonated Fey !

Fact2: Fey, as Palin with a huge grin on her face turns to the camera on SNL and delivers her killer line ” I can see Russia from my house

Palin, as Palin in fact has never made the comment about being able to see Russia from her house but she did invoke the fact that Russia is across the water from the state of Alaska, of which she is Governor, as evidence of her Foreign Policy Credentials

Clear winner from all this is 33 year old Saturday Night Live and Tina Fey

She was certainly presented with an impersonator’s Dream when John McCain nominated Palin as his running mate.  The looks, the accent, hair color, height.. the works!

Tina Fey ( as Palin ) for VP!..  if they just put her in place of Palin..  will anyone really notice ?  <wink><wink>

There has been some suggestions that with Fey’s sketches focusing on the cutesy, hockey mom-sy, bumbling side of Palin that she is distracting attention away from some of her uglier behavior

And as for Palin, the hockey mom :

McCain is now after the Middle Class

October 26, 2008

Senator McCain has cast himself as the defender of the middle class and the American value of rewarding hard work while warning voters of his rival’s plans to “tax and spend”.

With frontrunner Barack Obama off the campaign trail - on a mercy dash to his dying grandmother, who raised him - Senator McCain continued to try to tar the Democratic presidential hopeful as a secret socialist in a bid to sway voters 11 days before the November 4 election.

“He believes in redistributing wealth, not in policies that grow our economy and create jobs,” he told a rally in Colorado Springs, Colorado. “Senator Obama may say he’s trying to soak the rich, but it’s the middle class who are going to get put through the wringer, because a lot of his promised tax increase misses the target.”

At issue is Senator Obama’s plan to let temporary tax cuts expire for the top 5 per cent of Americans in order to give tax breaks to everyone else.

Senator McCain said raising taxes in a bad economy will “kill jobs” and warned that Democrats have previewed their plans to “tax and spend”.

“The answer to a slowing economy is not higher taxes, but that is exactly what is going to happen when the Democrats have total control of Washington,” Senator McCain said. “We can’t let that happen.”

Senator Obama’s campaign wasted no time in issuing a retort.

“Senator McCain can continue to make these desperate and dishonest attacks, but the fact is that Senator Obama will cut taxes for 95 per cent of working Americans while John McCain gives no relief at all to more than 100 million Americans,” Senator Obama spokesman Hari Sevugan said in a statement.

National tracking polls have Senator Obama up anywhere from four to 14 percentage points, with a solid lead in most battleground states.

But the gap has narrowed this week as Senator McCain hammered away at Senator Obama for telling an Ohio plumber - wary of the Democrats’ tax plans - that everyone is better off when you “spread the wealth around”.

Taking a 36-hour break from campaigning, Senator Obama spent a second day with his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, 85, who raised him for much of his childhood in Hawaii. He will resume campaigning in Nevada.
