The Free Republic Attracts Some Severly Troubled Individuals
May 20, 2008
A while back FOX News’s Bill O’Reilly, upset over a handful of insensitive comments about Nancy Reagan which appeared on the Huffington Post message boards, proceeded to take his frustration out on Adrianna Huffington, comparing her to the Ku Klux Klan and Nazi’s. I am sure everyone is aware by now Senator Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor Tuesday morning.
The reaction over at the Free Republic was -well- lets just say downright disgusting. I am curious to see if O’Reilly now compare the Free Republic, it’s reader, writers, and owners to the KKK and Nazi’s in the same fashion he did with Arianna over a couple random comments regarding a slip and fall accident?
The following are a collection of just a handful of the startlingly high volume of demented responses too the announcement that Senator Kennedy had been diagnosed with a brain tumor which will require chemotherapy radiation therapy, and worst all – threaten to take his life prematurely.
Here is the reality behind the far right, and while I condemn “extremes” on both sides of the aisle, it seems as though time and time again that the far right is much more vindictive, vile, hateful, and downright heinous in their words and actions. Here is what the Free Republic, and subsequently a large facet of their readers think about the tragic news regarding Sen. Kennedy’s:

“I hope he does okay…but…he’s an older man, he’s had riches that he never earned and power that he never deserved..he’s lived a full life, although he has accounted for nothing….I don’t wish him ill but I put it in perspective…..how many strapping young men and promising young women have died for this country?….how many in wheelchairs?…how many young or middle aged people do we all know that have horrible diseases or have died from cancer?….plenty….life is not fair…not even close….but life has been good to Ted…..”

“I am a sinner and by no means perfect but this sorry sack of garbage was given the opportunity to repent before he meets his Creator. He should be thankful. You don’t have to put yourself down to feel that way. I’m sure you are not a murder. I have no prayers or best wishes to offer either so I’m staying away from the threads.”

“The really frightening part is this will make John F’n Cary the senior senator from the Bay Gay state. Think positive, we will have one less murderous traitor to worry about.”
Clearly the Free Republic is oozing with class, so much that I would be willing to bet that Bill O’Reilly manages to “forget” his wicked critiques of the site as a whole, the owners on a personal level, and everything else in between which is affiliated with the site in any way, shape, or form.
More or less this illustrates the continuation of a double standard that is so prevalent in this day and age that it could be considered comedy if it weren’t for certain circumstances such as this one regarding Senator Kennedy. That’s all I am going to say about the subject, it is so sickening and repulsive that I really would rather leave it as it is – an illustration of the Free Republic, certain aspects of the far right, and the double standard applied which is obnoxiously prevalent when parsing the “wrongdoings” of politically aligned individuals.
