Obama Says McCain’s Involvement in the ‘Keating 5′ Scandal is Fair Game

May 12, 2008

With the arbitrary attacks and smears being echoed throughout the mainstream media regarding issues such as flag pin and “the pledge of allegiance” begin to fizzle out (hopefully for good, however smears and attacks are the only way the GOP knows how to win), Senator Barack Obama finally has a chance to start campaigning opposed to constanly explaining himself in the media and reporters regarding issues that are for the most part meaningless to the average American.

Obama did not waste any time, earlier today he said that a investigation and intense suspicion from Senator John McCain’s past known as the ‘Keating Five Scandal’ was just as relevant to the presidential campaign as questions about who Mr. Obama has associated with over the years, and everything else he has had to deal with pertaining to issues regarding character.

During a press junket in Oregon, Senator Obama was asked whether his campaign intended to raise the banking scandal from the 1980s, which Mr. McCain has apologized for a countless number of times (which clearly shows his guilt in respect to the crimes committed). Every piece of every candidate’s public record, Senator Obama continued to say, “is germane to the presidency.” Barack offered this explanation too why this scandal is fair game to talk revisit:

I was just asked previously about a whole host of issues and associations that are a lot more flimsy than John McCain’s relationship to Keating Five,” Mr. Obama said. What I said, I can’t quarrel with the American people wanting to know more about that and me having to answer questions about it.”

Can you really blame him, Obama’s background, ranging from his longtime pastor to his friendship with former radicals from the 1960s, has been widely debated during the Democratic nominating fight. He said he expected the same level of scrutiny would be applied to Mr. McCain.

To no one’s surprise Obama’s statements caught the ear of many on the right, specifically those high up in the McCain camp. One McCain campaign official fired a rebuttal statement shortly after Obama concluded his talk with the Oregon media, the statement read:

Apparently, Obama’s lively calls for new politics ended today. If Barack Obama doesn’t have the strength to stand up to his own standards, how is he going to stand up for hardworking Americans?” said Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for Mr. McCain.

As the Democratic presidential nominee (yes I know what I said, I am sick of pretending he is still in competiton with Hillary for the nomination) spoke openly with local reporters as the Cascade Mountains in acted as a backdrop looming in the distance. Another noted piece from his chat conference took place when Obama sought to clarify a remark he made the other day when he suggested Mr. McCain was losing his bearings.” Obama wasted no time dancing around the subject as he said:

“Was that a veiled reference to age? No. His team somehow took this as an ageist comment,” he said. How that was interpreted in that fashion still is not clear to me.”

The Democratic presidential nominee continued to say:

Last I checked, people lose their bearings at every age.”

This serves as just one more facet that allows us to see just what a stand up guy Barack Obama really is. I say this because considering the fact Sen. Obama was not asked too defend, or follow up on his McCain’s losing his bearings” staatetement, or any inquiry regarding his thoughts on McCain age, Obama went out of his way and raised both topics on his own accord in an effort to clarify what it was he meant, and that there were no “personal” attacks subliminally hididng within the context of his statement.

Or as I would like to say, this was simply another reminder of why I am so energetic about Obama, and his campaign. Never have I (Kerry was close but not at this level) seen a political candidate in which what they say do and plan on doing has comes across in the way Obama has managed to relay his message. And that is the reason why I am an a extremely loyal, and overly proud supporter of Barack Obama and his campaign.
