Jokes Over–Someone Really Needs to Let Hillary Know What’s Going On
May 9, 2008
It doesn’t seem to be a secret anymore, heck, I think it’s safe to say the cats out of the bag on this one. Today saw a continuation of the major news outlets outlining the reality of the current Democratic Primary race, and it’s a reality that is pretty clear cut — Hillary Clinton’s candidacy is not going to happen, and there’s no ifs, ands or buts about it, regardless how hard the Clinton’s continue to “fight on.”
The Associated Press reports on the nine super delegates Barack Obama picked up today were yet another signal that this baby is all done, the race is over — this was driven harder home when Hillary Clinton answered Obama’s roll call of supers with just one of her own. ABC, a network who has been overly supportive of Clinton throughout the race declared that according to their delegate tallies, Obama had won both in the “pledged” and for the first time “super” delegate categories. This however was not entirely true, later in the afternoon the AP’s showed Obama was actually still half a point behind Clinton in terms of super delegates.
The most telling indicator of the day however was delivered by none other then former Democratic hopeful, John Edwards, who openly said, “it’s very difficult to make the math work.” And while Edwards has yet to give an official endorsement, he went on to say during the same interview that Obama looked like the one more able to unite the Democratic party in time for next November’s general election.
The Huffington Post put together an expose of sorts chronicling the steady stream of pundits, networks, and other media outlets stating both why and how this seemingly “never ending” primary contest is now all but sealed up for Senator Barack Obama:
“Barack Obama all but erased Hillary Rodham Clinton’s once-imposing lead among national convention superdelegates on Friday and won fresh labor backing as elements of the Democratic Party began coalescing around the Illinois senator for the fall campaign.”
ABC News’ Karen Travers Reports: For the first time this campaign season, Barack Obama has surpassed Hillary Clinton’s support among super delegates, according to the ABC News delegate estimate.
The former presidential candidate told interviewers on NBC and MSNBC that Barack Obama will probably top the Democratic ticket this fall.
Hillary Clinton has said that she can still win the nomination – but “it’s very difficult to make the math work,” said Edwards.
“Just looking at the facts, he’s the presumptive nominee,” Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., said at a The New Yorker magazine conference Friday. Emanuel, who worked in the Clinton White House and has home state ties to Obama, has remained neutral in the race.
As you can see, when I said the feeling that this race is over seems to be unanimous amongst every player in the game – from the AP to Rahm Emanuel– it wasn’t a overstatement. Now comes the hard part, and that’s the task of letting Hillary in on the “not so secret”, secret. It’s safe to say the Clinton’s don’t like losing, not that anyone “likes” losing, but I have a sneaking suspicion the Clinton’s really don’t like it — to the point they convince themselves that it’s not really happening.
