Please take a minute to watch this video clip that takes us back t0 the Senate debates which took place 2002, in the run up to the vote which allowed George W. Bush free reign in the invasion, and subsequent war, that we are now knee deep in, across the world from us in Iraq. It is an incredibly passionate speech about the Constitution and how George W Bush is both corrupting and violating it in an unprecedented manner. Both extremely powerful and moving, Byrd’s insight, knowledge of history and respect of the United States Constitution is documented in this clip in a way I believe every American should be made aware of:

Maybe next time more of our elected officials will show the strength, and respect for the Constitution and stand up much like Robert Byrd did, and defy any leader who is trying to act in the same nature George W. Bush did with the resolution for war in Iraq. Furthermore I hope opponents of Byrd come to see that regardless of the demons which may haunt Robert Byrd’s past, his 50 years of service to the United States makes up for them completely.

In fact, we should have listened to the man with more of an open ear. For if we had done that, we may not be where we are now, with 4,000 graves courtesy of Bush’s righeous war.
